AI Age Filter: Make a Face Look Older or Younger in a Photo or Video

Curious how you might look a few decades from now? Need a younger version of a character for a flashback? Face Studio’s Age edit moves a face along one slider, from younger to older, and keeps who it is. It works on a photo or a video, on one person or everyone in the frame — and on a video you can check a single frame before you commit to the whole clip.

How the AI age filter works

Age is one of Face Studio’s face edits. It is deliberately simple: one control, and you judge the result with your own eyes.

  • One slider, both ways

Drag towards Younger or towards Older. The further you go, the stronger the change; in the middle, nothing changes.

  • A direction, not a birthday

The slider sets how strong the change is, not a target age in years. It will not promise “you at 80”; it shows a face older or younger, by as much as you choose.

  • The person stays the person

Age changes how old a face looks, not whose face it is. To change who it is, use Swap instead.

  • Photos and videos

Age a still, or up to 600 seconds of video at a time; a longer video is offered in parts.

How to make a face older or younger

Five steps.

  1. Choose Age and add the picture

Upload a photo or a video, or paste a link to a video you made or have permission to use.

  2. Pick the face

Face Studio finds up to 8 people. Tap the ones to change, or leave nobody picked and every face is aged.

  3. Set the slider

Move it towards Younger or Older. Its label shows the direction and how far you have gone.

  4. Preview a frame

On a video, preview one frame and adjust the slider until it looks right.

  5. Age it and compare

Run the edit, drag the before-and-after slider, then download or share the result.

Ideas for the age filter

Some people use it for fun, others for a project.

  • Meet your future self

Push your own selfie older and post the before-and-after.

  • Flashbacks and time jumps

Make the lead of your short film younger for a flashback, or older for a “years later” ending, in the video itself.

  • One character, two ages

Give a fictional character a younger and an older version for a series.

  • A birthday surprise

Age a family photo for a party slideshow — with the family’s say-so.

Tips for a natural result

Guidance rather than rules, but these make the biggest difference.

  • Start gently

Small moves on the slider tend to look more natural than the extremes; go further once you like the direction.

  • A clear, front-facing face

A sharp face turned towards the camera ages more convincingly than a small or side-on one. The photo or video must be at least 256 pixels on its shorter side.

  • Sharpen first if you need to

If the face is soft or noisy, run Enhance first and age the sharper copy.

  • Age one person in a group

Pick just one face and leave the others as they are — the comparison is half the fun.

Age, Swap or Expression?

Three Face Studio modes are easy to mix up. Age keeps the person and changes how old they look. Swap replaces the face with a saved face of someone else, with that person’s permission. Expression keeps the person and the age and changes the look on the face — a smile, the eyes, the gaze.

They combine well: age a character for a flashback, then add a smile with Expression on the aged copy.

The rules behind every edit

Age follows Face Studio’s terms: your own face, an adult who gave you permission, or a face that is not a real person. Faces that appear to be minors are refused by the content checks, and a run that is blocked or fails costs nothing.

Every result carries an invisible watermark and a C2PA content credential saying it was edited with AI, so an aged photo is marked as an edit wherever it goes.
