AI Thumbnail Maker: YouTube Thumbnails From Your Own Video
A thumbnail should look like the video it sells, so start from the video. Pick a FloStudio project, a video from your device or a photo, type the title, and Image Studio offers the 3 strongest frames, draws 3 layouts with big, readable words, and makes the YouTube thumbnail, the Shorts or Reels cover and the channel banner in one design. Cut the subject out to put the person in front of the words, or let Make it for me read the video and design three directions for you. Laying it out and editing it are free; each picture the AI makes costs 2 credits.

How to make a YouTube thumbnail from your video
Four steps from a finished video to a thumbnail you can upload.
Choose the video
Open the thumbnail kit in Image Studio’s editor and pick a FloStudio project, a video from your phone or computer, or a photo. From FloStudio, the export screen’s Make thumbnail button opens the kit with that film already picked.
Pick a frame
The kit looks through the video and offers the 3 strongest frames — sharp, well exposed and colourful, with a face where your browser can find one. Choose one, or two for a side-by-side.
Type the words and pick a look
Write the title — its first few words become the hook — and choose where it goes: a YouTube thumbnail, a Shorts or Reels cover, a channel banner, or all three. 3 layouts appear, drawn as they will export, and Make 3 more adds variations with other frames and colours.
Finish it in the editor
The design opens in the layer editor with every size in it. Change the words, the colours, the frame or the layout, then export a PNG, JPEG or WebP.
Three thumbnail layouts that already work
The kit starts from the shapes thumbnails have settled on, then fits your words to them so they stay big and inside the safe area.
Title beside the subject
The words stacked on one side over a dark wash, the person on the other: the talking-head and tutorial thumbnail.
One big line
The subject in the middle and a short line of huge words across the bottom on a bar: the reaction and challenge thumbnail.
Side by side
Two frames with a divider and the words on a band across the middle: before and after, this or that.
Colours that pop
Each layout comes in bright word-and-accent pairs, and your brand colour can lead them.
Put yourself in front of the words
Thumbnails with a face usually put the person over the text. Press Cut out the subject and the frame’s subject is lifted out as its own layer, with the price on the button: 2 credits, the same as any picture, and nothing if it fails. Skip it and the layouts still work, with the frame behind the words.
Because the cut-out is a layer, you can move it, scale it, give it an outline or a glow in the editor, and keep it when you try another layout.
Every size from one design
Tick the places the video goes and each size is laid out for its own shape.
YouTube thumbnail, 1280 × 720
The 16:9 size YouTube asks for. The export check warns you when a file is too heavy for the YouTube phone app.
Shorts and Reels cover, 1080 × 1920
The 9:16 cover, its words inside the safe area, with a guide for the part a profile grid shows.
Channel banner, 2560 × 1440
With a guide for the band every device shows, so the words are not cut off on a phone.
One edit, every size
The sizes share their layers, so a change to the words in one can be carried to the others.
Make it for me: three directions from the AI
Rather not choose? The AI version takes the same FloStudio project, a video or up to 12 photos, plus a title or a line about the video if you like. It reads the frames, writes a short hook, designs three different directions — layout, frame, words, colours, cut-out and sometimes a backdrop — and has each one checked and fixed before it shows them to you, ranked.
Pick one and you get the YouTube thumbnail, the Shorts or Reels cover and the channel banner as files, with the design kept so you can edit it. Ask for another round — warmer, bolder, simpler — if none is quite right.
It shows its estimate before it starts. The pictures it makes are charged at Image Studio’s prices (a cut-out is 2 credits; a 4K backdrop costs more), and the AI’s writing and checking is charged for what it uses, from your AI Studio allowance first.
What it costs
You pay for pictures the AI makes, not for designing.
Laying it out is free
Frames, layouts, words, colours, sizes, edits in the layer editor and exports cost nothing.
2 credits a picture
For a subject cut-out, or any other picture the AI makes or changes, shown on the button before you press it.
Nothing for a failed picture
Credits are held while a picture is made and charged only when it is ready; a blocked or failed one costs nothing.
No subscription
Pay with Voxmin credits, the same balance as FloStudio, songs and voices. Purchased credits never expire.
Made with FloStudio? Make its thumbnail from the export screen
Finish a film in FloStudio and its export screen has a Make thumbnail button. It saves the film as it stands, opens the thumbnail kit on its frames in the same tab, and Back takes you to the edit.
The finished export is used when there is one, so the frames are the cut your viewers will see; otherwise the kit looks at the film’s rendered scenes.
Use frames you have the right to use
Make thumbnails for your own videos, or for videos you have permission to use. Do not use someone else’s face, logo or footage to suggest they made or endorse your video. Every picture the AI makes is checked against the content rules before it is shown or charged.
