A reference sets direction; it does not get reproduced

Reference audio gives the generator sonic context alongside your written brief. It does not transcribe the melody, lift the chord progression, reuse the recording, or clone the singer. If you need the actual song — its melody, lyrics, and timing — you are looking for a cover or a karaoke track, not a reference generation.     Prefer a clean studio upload over a live take, a phone recording, or a video whose audio is mostly crowd and compression. The import inherits whatever quality the source has.

Can I paste a YouTube link as reference audio?

Yes. Song Studio takes a YouTube link anywhere it takes an uploaded file — youtube.com, youtu.be, Shorts, live, embed, and YouTube Music links all parse. Voxmin imports the audio through the same metered downloader the AI Studio chat uses, so the import counts against your account YouTube allowance.

Will the generated song sound like the YouTube track?

It will sound like it was pointed at the same target, which is not the same as sounding like a copy. Reference audio supplies sonic context for a new composition; melody, lyrics, chord progression, and the recording itself are not carried over. If you want the actual song with a different singer, that is a voice cover, and if you want it without the singer, that is karaoke.

Do I need an account to try a YouTube reference?

Can I reference a copyrighted song from YouTube?

Only reference material you have the right to process. A link field grants no rights over the recording, composition, melody, lyrics, artist identity, or a protected style, and public availability on YouTube is not permission. Voxmin cannot license third-party material on your behalf.

Is a reference better than just writing a detailed brief?

They do different work, and the brief still does more of it. A reference is fastest when you can hear the target but cannot describe it in production terms. Even then, write the brief — the pairing consistently beats either input alone.
